Alaska consists of 19 organized boroughs and 11 census areas in the unorganized borough, each of which is an administrative region of the state. North Slope Borough, the largest borough in area, covers approximately 88,824 square miles (230,053 km2). Anchorage, the most populous borough, is home to more than 286,000 people. Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area, the largest census area in area, covers approximately 145,576 square miles (377,040 km2). Bethel Census Area, the most populous census area, is home to more than 18,600 people
